Nan Chiau 63rd Anniversary Celebration cum Prize Giving Ceremony

On the 26th March the Nan Chiau Youth Alumni Chairman was invited to attend the Nan Chiau 63rd Anniversary Celebration cum Prize Giving Ceremony at Nan Chiau High School. Below is her experience which she would like to share:

On 26th March 2010, together with two of our seniors from the alumni main committee, we attended the Nan Chiau 63rd Anniversary Celebration cum Prize Giving Ceremony at Nan Chiau High School. We were honoured to be invited by the principal, Mr Ong. It was a magnificent event, which started off with a parade and a march past in the parade square. It was quite a spectacular sight.

At the prize giving ceremony, I learnt that NCHS has attained the band 1 status with this year's graduates. Hearing that, I felt extremely proud of the juniors. From where we started off at Sengkang in 2001, our results have constantly been improving. With regards to cultural and uniformed groups, our school has also achieved gratifying results. And today, NCHS has become a reputable school within the area.

Stepping into the school and seeing familiar faces was a heartwarming experience. Walking along the corridor, speaking to a few of the teachers, sitting in the hall. I was surprised that a few of my teachers could remember me. That really meant a lot to me as a student. These things bring back pleasant memories I had.

I was glad to make this trip down to the school, and I am especially grateful to Mr Ong for inviting us. Once again, thank you for having us.

4th NCYA Committee Elections

On 21st March 2010, the 4th batch of NCYA committee members was elected. To start off, our newly elected chairperson would like to share a few words.

“Hi everyone, I am the newly elected chairperson of the Nan Chiau Youth Committee! Firstly I would like to welcome everyone to this big family. Nan Chiau Youth Alumni consists not only of the primary school graduates, but also the high school graduates, so we are really one big family!

Upon graduation, I have participated in alumni activities with a few of my committee members. We thus have a deep sense of belonging to the alumni as well as the school. To me, the school is the place which brought me and my friends together, a place where strong bonds of friendship were forged. That is where we got to know each other, where we gained knowledge and where we graduated from. That is why I chose to give back to the school, to serve and to lead.

Should you be interested in joining the alumni, our doors are always open! The alumni is a place where old friends gather and relive the memories we once had in our alma mater.”

The highlight of this event is a journey to the past charting the story of Nan Chiau, chronicling its shift from the old site at Kim Yam Road to our current premises at Sengkang.

We are seeking volunteers for runners or helpers (to coordinate the event). Don't hold back and join us now!

** There will be a bus that would be doing picking up and dropping off at each station. So anytime you need a rest, feel free to hop on at the stations.
Please note that the picking up/dropping off service stops at STATION21 POTONG PASIR MRT. Distance left from STATION21 to the final STATION30 at NCPS is estimated to be around 10KM.
The bus will also bring all participants after they have completed their wave back to NCPS.

Shines in Harmony 2009

Last Saturday, "Shines in Harmony" was held in Nan Chiau High School. The Nan Chiau Youth Alumni had a games booth -- Basket Ping Pong. Where participants had to throw ping pong balls into a hoop, just like bastketball! But in a mini version. The response was encouraging, with lots of our fellow juniors coming to support. And it was a delight to see our teachers again, albeit some having more white hair! Teaching is stressful indeed!
And here, as usual, some pictures to showcase the day's events!

Our first hip hop lesson

Hello there!

Our very first Hip Hop lesson from the Nan Chiau Youth Alumni Dance Club has finally started! We were all excited about it.

Everyone was really shy at the beginning.

But the ice was broken when everyone began laughing and playing around when we were all trying to get the side steps correct. 5 6 7 8, Step, kick, hop!

Newspaper Collection 2009

On 16 March 2009, the Newspaper Collection day has finally arrived after months of preparation. The committee members arrived earlier to have the last round of briefing to ensure we have everything prepared and ready.

The students are gradually arriving, filling the hall with more and more people. The participants head out to start the collection after listening to the safety briefing.

Dance Club Updates

Hello everyone!

We are proud to announce that the long awaited dance club is starting this coming Sunday!

The first training begins on

• 16 August 2009, Sunday
• 10.30am - 12pm
• Nan Chiau Primary School, dance studio (3rd Floor)

Please be reminded of the following:
1. Be dressed in comfortable clothings (i.e. T-shirts, track pants, sports shoes). No slippers/shorts/skirts allowed! Covered shoes only.
2. Please reach at least 15 mins earlier because we want to start the lesson on time.

Payment
Payment is to be made on the first lesson. Please reach 15 mins earlier.
Nan Chiau Grads: $70
Nan Chiau current student: $65
Non Nan Chiau Students: $75
Trial lesson: $10
A $10 one-time membership fee is applicable to all except those coming for trial lesson.
This lesson fee is for 8 lessons.

How to get there
You can take Bus 372 to reach NCPS.
Address: 50 Anchorvale Link, Singapore 545080.
It is within walking distance from NCHS.

Nan Chiau Youth Alumni Dance Club

Hello to all Nan Chiau Students and Nan Chiau Graduates!

The Nan Chiau Youth Alumni is proud to present our first ever Dance Club.

Reminiscing the good old days in Nan Chiau? The tears we shed, the fun and laughter we shared? And wishing those days did not end?

Now is the chance to relive those memories! The Nan Chiau Youth Alumni Dance Club is a place to forge new bonds and rekindle old ones.

Here are the objectives of the Dance Club:
1) To bring all current Nan Chiau students & graduates who have a passion for dance together!
2) Engage in charity work and participating in Nan Chiau Alumni Events.

For starters, the Dance Club will be focusing on Hip Hop. As the club expands, a variety of dance genres will be introduced. Workshops will be held before every official start of trainings so as to give dancers an introduction to Hip Hop.

Below is basic information on the dance curriculum:
Course: Hip Hop 1 ( 8 weeks course )
Training: Dance trainings will be held Once Weekly on either Saturday or Sunday for 1.5 hours.
Venue: Nan Chiau Primary School (will be reconfirmed)
Training Fees: $70 for a 8 weeks course and a $10 one-time registration fee

The Big Question: Who can join?
Anyone! As long as you are a current Nan Chiau Student or Nan Chiau graduate. No dance background required! We are here to have fun!

Collection of Newspapers/Magazines/Old Clothes

To welcome the arrival of 2009…

The NCYA is pleased to present to you an event that will allow the graduates of Nan Chiau and the current P6 students to forge bonds and stay close to the Nan Chiau Family. A newspaper/ old items collection drive will be held on ~~03 January, Saturday, 2009.~~
Event is postponed to 16 March, Monday, 2009.

The objectives of this programme are: (1) to educate pupils on recycling & (2) to help our needy pupils from the proceeds.
